Set up THE ORB.

Five minutes. You need a USB-C cable, your Wi-Fi password, and a Mac on the same network.

  1. Plug in.

Any 5 V USB-C supply. The face lights and shows the clock while it waits for Wi-Fi.

  2. Join your Wi-Fi.

On first boot THE ORB opens a setup network called ORB-XXXX. Join it from your phone, pick your Wi-Fi, enter the password. It remembers.

  3. Run the companion on your Mac.

Download the ORB companion, open it once, and it finds your ORB by name on the network. It reads your usage the same way the Claude app does and serves it to THE ORB on your LAN only.

  4. Pick a face.

Drag sideways. WEEK, TODAY, TIMER, NEXT, TASKS, DUE. The one you leave it on survives a power cut.

  5. Let it update itself.

New firmware arrives on its own within about 30 minutes of release, verified by hash. If a build can’t join Wi-Fi and complete a real poll, it rolls back.

If something looks wrong.

Face shows “no data”
The companion isn’t running or the Mac is on a different network.
Rings don’t match the app
WEEK and TODAY are different windows; the chip in the centre names which one you’re on.
NEXT or DUE is empty
An empty block means nothing is scheduled. A broken feed shows a warning instead, so you can tell them apart.
